Almost any small signal transistor will do to drive the power MOSFETs gate and the LEDs. Any P-channel power MOSFET will do as long as RDS (on) is low enough at the current rating high enough. Make sure the MOSFET's VGS is not exceeded if you use high supply voltages (The RFP15P05 used here is fine for supply voltages up to 15V). The N-channel MOSFET should have a low RDS (on) at a gate-source voltage of 5V. A logic-level MOSFET is ideal. I just browsed the Farnell catalog and selected the cheapest suitable ones...
